Not his best side! First look of Michael Fassbender as he gets into character as cult legend Frank Sidebottom on set of new film
He's known as one of the acting world's most lusted after stars.
But Michael Fassbender certainly couldn't be accused of playing on his good looks for his latest film role, donning a huge fake head as he got into character as cult comedy legend Frank Sidebottom on Thursday.
During his third day of filming on Frank in Ireland, which is loosely based on Chris Sievey's comedy creation, the Shame star was spotted wandering around in Bray, Ireland, wearing the comic mask.
Best known for his gritty
roles, the portrayal of the iconic character will be something of a
departure for Michael, who is starring opposite Domhnall Gleeson and
Maggie Gyllenhaal.
For the scene, the actor looked the spitting image of Sievey's much-loved comic creation, wearing a brown, striped cardigan and black trousers and carrying a stick in some scenes.
In between takes, Michael seemed relieved to take off the head, and wandered around the chilly Irish town in a black bomber jacket and brown lace-up boots.
For lunch, the star headed to
the Bray Head Inn where he picked up some food, before heading back to
work clutching a huge, blue umbrella.
The star recently split from his Shame co-star Nicole Beharie, who he had been dating since they met on set in 2011.
The 300 actor was joined on set by Maggie Gyllenhaal, who looked almost unrecognisable with an unflattering bowl haircut and wearing a thick black coat.
The film is based on a fictional
memoir by Jon Ronson, which centres around a boy who joins a band of
eccentric musicians, finding himself out of his depth, drawing
inspiration from Sievey's cult character.
The comedian and musician passed away in 2010 and Ronson backed a campaign to raise money for his funeral after it emerged that he had been penniless.
Filming on Frank began at the beginning of the month in New Mexico and is being directed by Lenny Abrahamson.
