First, in comparison to US, UK, Canada and Australian Universities the value of Chinese degrees is not considered high despite all the rankings especially when it comes to jobs and salaries. Many Chinese students who excel in studies prefer to choose foreign universities to the local ones for that reason. One must weigh the return on investment for ones future seriously before making a decision but before deciding one must weight all options.

Secondly, the one big advantage with Chinese universities is low tuition fees and low cost of education and living compared to foreign universities as mentioned above. Moreover getting admission is also much easier. Those who are unable to pursue higher education in their home countries due to higher entry barriers will find China a better option to get a University degree at a lower cost. For many this is a very attractive and viable options to consider.

Though one must bear in mind that Chinese language is big barrier for foreigners for communication unlike English which is universally spoken. A student coming to China will have to first learn the language which is a very difficult language and 99% people only speak Chinese, a difficult proposition for a foreigner to endure on a daily basis. This will be a great handicap and could become frustrating when one has other available options.

Third, for many foreigners China will come as a cultural shock due to extreme difference of language, food, customs, attitude of people although Chinese people are very friendly and very welcoming.

Although there are many foreign students who study in China who have good and happy experience while some have settled there and opened businesses or even got married to the local Chinese. China is also a new emerging country and a rising economic power and therefore studying there and building connections and network could be an added advantage. One must weigh all the pros and cons before deciding, as a good University degree could be life changing for one’s future.
